and provides police and fire protection, along with water and sewer utilities.

Fire Department: The Prentiss Fire Department consists of three full-time firefighters and twenty-three volunteers. The town carries a fire insurance rating of 7 and utilizes two pumper trucks, one tanker and a rescue truck equipped with Jaws of Life to provide fire protection, EMS first response and extrication services for 117 square miles of Jefferson Davis County.

Public Works: The Prentiss Public Works Department consists of six full-time employees. Both water and wastewater plants have new automated controls. The Prentiss water system has two elevated storage tanks and a new 1,100 gallon per minute water well. It also recently received a perfect score
from the Mississippi State Department of Health.
